I have a Jubilee on a 6 volt system. I have had the battery checked and it is good, but the engine turns over too slow to crank part of the time. I can hear a little noise inside the starter part of the time. Does this sound like a starter problem or could it be something else? I have already cleaned and tightened all of the connections. I will appreciate your advice.
Thanks

My advice is kind of for if you decide to give up on the starter, but if you have converted to a twelve volt system it works great! I have 53' NAA and it was converted to a twelve system when I got it. The original six volt starter died and I did some research, in that I discovered that the starter for the later hundred series diesel is the same. It is a twelve unit that has no problem firing off the ol' Tiger Jubilee. Good Luck.

Good advice so far. One last thing to check / try is to bypass the starter solenoid.

Rarely, the contacts in the solenoid itself go bad, causing poor internal connection, even though the outside ones are ok.

Just be safe if you are doing this from a spot where you can be run over.... make sure the tranny is in neutral...be safe!

A short length of heave gauge wire across the lugs will let you know.

Make sure the rest of the ignition is up to snuff.

If you have a fully-charged battery and ALL connections are clean, bright and tight, AND you are using the correct gauge cables then it may be something else. The cables should be big old thick ones like 1 or 2 gauge, not the little bitty 12-volt-type cables. If that all checks out, it could be the brushes or commutator. Pull it off and have it checked by a starter shop.

Probably getting time for some new bearings in the starter.
