JUBILATION in I

I have an early '53 Jubilee and two questions about it. Is the Vane hydraulic pump the one with the adjusting "knob" on the front? (which I do not have) ... or do I assume the Vane style pump was replaced with the piston style? When was the Vane style pump eliminated? Also, I have a location for an instrument panel light on my dash but the bullet shaped instrument panel light shield is missing. I am pretty sure this part (1377-A) is unavailable. Does anyone have a photograph of one of these or know where a used one can be located? A good description of this part would be helpful so that I might be able to come up with a reasonable look-alike.

here is a pic of the jubilee dash light. What you can't see in this photo is the small slot in the front that lets the light shine on the gauges. Not the best illumination, but it works. Wish my 8N had a dash light! These are hard to come by but can still be had with enough searching. Good Luck!

Can you tell me the order of the guages on the dash of a 53 Golden Jubilee (from left to right)
Are you also able to give me a lead on where to find headlights ? I am in the middle of a restoration project.

Thanks Art B.

Mark, if the rest of your tractor looks as good as your dash, gages, steering wheel and hardware, you must have one fine looking tractor. Do you use if for show only or use it for work and show?

Thanks for the picture. That is exactly what I was hoping would be sent in. I have been and will keep searching for this part. I know there is at least one out there somewhere that is just itchin to see the light again...

Mark B (PA)-
Good looking tractor. I have a question about the other dash instruments. I bought a replacement ammeter from my local F/NH dealer. It has a chrome ring instead of black, and it stands up about 3/4 " above the dashboard. The rest of my instruments are badly sun-faded and the white in the proofmeter has a rusty brown discoloration. I am planning to restore the tractor in the spring, and these instruments will definitely detract from the look.
Are there exact replacement instruments still available for a Jubilee, and where?
Thanks, Mike NAA 36663

Mike - I don't know of any exact replacements. All the gauges are new on my tractor except the proofmeter, which is original. Several of the boadr ads sell proofmeter restoration decals, and I beleive the archives has instructions on how to restore a proofmeter.

The gauges come with a chrome ring and sit flush with the dash. The original gauges had black rings, so I taped off my glass and painted the chrome rings bu lightly sanding, using a self etch primer and a black rattle can. I had the original gauges for my tractor, but only the oil pressure was salvageable.I put it in my 8N. Good luck!

The vane pump is square-shaped while the piston pump is round. All Jubilees came from the factory with vane pumps, I believe. Piston pumps are preferred because they are relatively easy to service; parts and expertise on vane pumps are both getting scarce, according to my experience with one. The bullet-shaped piece is roughly 1.125 high and 1.185 diameter. It is round on top, somewhat like the steering wheel acorn nut. There is slit for the bulb to shine on the gauges. Mike-West De

Yes, the vane pump has an adjustment knob to adjust the flow rate from 1.5 - 4.0 gal/min (approx.). Although most replacement parts are still available for the vane pump, the pistion style pump is recommended as a replacement when the vane pump fails. It has been stated many times in this discussion board that the piston pump lasts longer and is less expensive to repair than the vane pump.
My Jubilee has a vane pump. The manuals indicate the increased flow rate setting is recommended for implements that have large volume hydraulic cylinders, like a loader. Operating smaller implements (or using the rear hydraulics) is smoother at the lower flow rate.
Cannot help with the dash light question. I am interested in the answer to that one, myself.
HTH, Good Luck with the tractor.
