Well I finally got my 8n running after putting new points and spark plugs. But I had to put a new coil on. Personally I didn't know which one to buy. I know that it was converted to a 12volt system. The coil I had bought didn't require a resister. My quistion is, does it really matter. If so what should i do? Thanks a lot. Keith

Keith..... ....I'm sure what you wrote makes sense to you, unfortunately, I flunked mind reading.

There are 2 types of 8N tractors, frontmounts with square ignition coils, and sidemounts with roundcan ignition coils. And there are 6 volt and 12 volt coils for each type. Square frontmount coils, wheather 6 or 12 volts require some sort of resistor.

Real 12 volt roundcan coils don't require any resistors BUT there are some roundcan ignition coils being sold as 12 volt coils with a little tag that sez: requires resistor, but who reads the tag, eh?

If you really want an answer, you'll need to clarify your 8N tractor ignition system..... ....Dell, a 12 volt advocate for the right reasons
