OK Guys and Gals:

This 8N that ownes me is driving me nutts!

Electrical system fine last fall when N stored, now:

At idle amp meter reads 0

As any increase in spead, amp meter drops to 8 negative.

Took cover off of regulator and 3 critters "seem" to be working (free not corroded).

PLEASE Help me I'm dis-chargin and can't get up!

Charles..... ...a "stealth" 12 volt genny problem. (grin) An 8 amp drain for runnin' a 6 cylinder is a little more than I'd expect just to run the sparkies, but ADD the constant field current (it should be pulsed) implies your Voltage Regulator has QUIT VIBRATING. And since your genny is stealth model, you're on your own for determining what model voltage regulator you have or need. Sometimes you're lucky, and there is a number stamped or printed somewheres inside the Voltage Regulator..... .....Dell

From the sound of it you may have the ammeter hooked up backwards. You shouldn't be pulling 8 amps to run the engine. It may be charging to 8 amps when you get the engine rpm up.

Haven't changed anything since last fall. Worked fine then, would show charge 10 positive then level off near 1+.

Thnaks for the response.

FO-4 says here that a quick check of genny output is to put a jumper wire between the arm and field terminals on the genny. Start engine and note ammeter reading. Remove the jumper and take note the ammeter reading. If there is no change in the reading when the jumper is removed then genny needs tested. If the charging rate increased with the jumper removed then the genny is ok and the regulator needs tested.

Is your battery in backwards? Did you remove the battery and reinstall it the same as it was last fall?
