I've just fixed an oil leak on my 8N (49'). Now I've got a potentially bigger problem. There is a loud knockin between her spark plugs and oil pan. It seems to increase in sound when shes in gear. When I put the clutch down it lessens and even stops at times. Very few times! Need comments/answers if possible. Thanks in advance, Justin.

Classic symptoms of a bad rod bearing. As BOB suggests, your oil leak may have been a cause. Until your KNOW the answer, I advise you to not run that engine.

There was an oil leak where the oil pump housing was cracked. I have not split her yet. I was tring to avoid that. All the teeth on the pump gear where in great condition. If she is choked the slightest bit the knockin really increases then. There is no known oil leak to be found. She hasn't lost any great amount of oil.(just what would normally be used) I've used the "screwdriver trick" to pin point the sound. It seems to be about 5-6" below the spark plugs. Would it help to drop the oil pan, or is that a waste of time? Thanks in advance, again. Justin
