My hydraulics would not lift on my 2n. I replaced the piston with an NAA type, dropped the pump and cleaned it, and the sump. Put it back together with clean new fluid. No problem, it lifted 500 lbs. no sweat. Loaded the tractor on the trailer and took it back to the farm, hydraulics won't lift again. I then changed the relief valve, no help. Is this some sort of test? What is the next logical move? Thanks for any advice, Buckeye.

Hey Buckeye Fan,you might have air in systym and did you replace the gaskets under the piston? should be 3 on 2N and next did you replace gasket on the top cover these gaskets are very important.
if you use silicone sealent this will only BLOW out under presure just my 1/2 cent BOB

BF-

From the sounds of this I wonder if it isn't the control valve or the linkage. I know this is probably an insult but I would also check to make sure the PTO is engaged. I bumped mine on my 2N and it took a fair amount of cussin' before I realized I had hit the lever and took the pump off-line. If it worked that well once, it is likely not the piston but you didn't say anything about the cylinder. If you put a new piston in an old cylinder, the scoring might be bad enough to tear the o-ring and cause bypass. The lift should still function somewhat but would leak down quickly.

Look for something simple first.

Good Luck

Im gonna guess bouncing up and down during transport knocked linkage out of whack.

Do you have something like this little knob (the one just in from of the seat support)? This is an after market add-on that functions as a valve between your cylinder & pump that allows for auxilary hydraulics. But more important to your question, in my case if I don't have it up my 3PH does nothing.

remove the insection cover on the right side and see if the poistion controll leaver is moveing when you move the lift controll leaver. If its not moveing the controll valve in the pump is sticking. I can get mine unstuck with a pry bar by prying it toward the back or front of the tractor. If it is moveing look at the lift cylinder with a mirrow . If you see a stream of fluid running out the end of the lift cylinder the oring or leather seal has been damaged. If you have to remove the top cover make sure you clean out the tube that runs from the pump to the cover. Thays were I find trash (old gasket, silicon, paint chips) I have got to were I go a head and fill with hydraulic fluid befor I install the top cover and turn the PTO by hand and pump some fluid threw the system to clean it out.

BF,
Was it working then just stopped before the repair? How many times did it work after the repair? Sometimes the pump needs some priming, done by manually lifting the arms a few times.

Brian, it was working and then quit, that's when I put the new piston in, it worked fine after the new piston was installed, I lifted 500lbs with it several times in the garage to be sure it was lifting ok before I loaded it on the trailer, drove 50 miles and unloaded it and it hasn't lifted since.
