My ‘53 Jubilee tractor starts & runs as long as I hold down the clutch pedal, but dies as soon as it is released. This just started this winter. Can you give me any idea of what might be wrong?

I guess I just don't like NEW problems with the tractor. It was new & Mom plowed the field - I was born that night. Mom gave it to me a few years ago!

Leaks in the hydraulic lines need patched, too - under your right foot - I was told by a tractor parts place that a new part would be $$$421.00???

My 850 does the same thing if I don't let it warm up a little. Then I still have to go easy on the clutch until it's really up to operating temp.

It's nice you have a tractor you've known all your life. Most of us have no idea about the history of our machines.

The cold engine can't turn the tranny etc over when it's cold too. Give it some choke as you ease the clutch out a bit and then push it in again. Repeat until it will run w/o choke. FWIW

COLD

Might Be Cold Fluid

Just a thought-my 9N sits outside, and when it is -10 or so I have to keep my foot on the clutch for a couple of minutes because the fluid in the transmission is so cold. The engine has to turn all those gears that are in the thick, cold fluid. On this boards recommendation I replaced my trans/hyd. fluid with the newer 134 spec. fluid and that seems to help a little, but I still need to ease off the clutch when it is cold or I will kill the motor. Once it is warmed up it runs fine.

Well, it could be the hydraulic fluid turned to mollasses, especially if one changed fluid to 90 weight. This is normal for cold temperatures. Does the tractor want to move when in neutral and the clutch is released? If so, that would confirm it. Let the engine warm up before you release the clutch and she will probably be ok... The hydro lines seem way overpriced.. Of course this problem could also be caused by the transmission being stuck in 2 gears.. Let's hope that it is not the latter..
Happy Motoring

A few more Facts Please.

Does it act like it's out of gas or
Does it act like the Clutch is stuck?

Has it been sitting for a long time ?
Has it been In side or Out side ?

Do you like to tinker with tractors? I don't think there are any New Problems. The old ones just happen to different people...

I'm Sure Some Body Can Help You Here.
