How much damage will be caused by leaving the key on for 7 days? I know it is a dumb thing to do but it happens. Thanks, Buckeye

I'm guessing that since it started the coil is probably OK. I'd drop in a set of points and condenser(check the cap and rotor as long as you're pulling the dist.) and go from there.

If the points happened to be open, perhaps nothing bad. You could be lucky.....

It can run the battery down and burn the points and/or condensor and may fry the coil. Will it not start now?

I got it started but it doesn't seem to have much power and it misses pretty bad, I'm going to pull the dist. and check the points. It is a front mount. IF the coil is bad will it be visible? Thanks for the help.

If the coil is bad there is no visual way to find out-the damage is internal. If you know how to take voltage readings you might be able to tell. Personally I would buy a new one and put it on. If worse comes to worse you will have a spare for when the coil really does go bad.
