I just replaced my points and condenser on my 8n, I pulled the mag off the front of the motor to get to the points, that's not a very good setup.
I set the points to 25-30 1000's is that right? My tractor now seems to have a miss and lack of power, any ideas?, it ran better before I tuned her up, guess I should have left it alone.

Skip..... .....experienced mechanics can R & R the frontmount distributor and replace the points in 15 minutes at the kitchen table (grin).

Frontmount distributor point gap is 0.015

Too wide a point gap doesn't give enuff time to build hot enuff sparkies on the just barely addaquate frontmount ignition coil. 0.025-0.030 is WAY TOO WIDE..... ...Dell

Ok, I see now that you remove the dist from the tractor, much better working on it, I reset the points to 15 , it runs alittle better but not like it did before, still seems to skip and has less power.

I would also like to know what air pressure I should run in my tires.
thanks

Skip..... ...what Mike said..... .firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW, ok?

So you changed your points and condensor, WHY? This information could help us diagnose your engine lowpower skip and miss complaint. Did you replace your sparkies? Autolite AL-437's gapped 0.025 are highly recommended.

frontire pressure 24 psi, reartire pressure 12 psi..... ...Dell

Front of the engine. Then 2,3, and 4 is at the rear (nearest the driver). The frontmount distributor cap is marked with a small 1,2,3,4. Make sure the correct nipple on the cap goes to the correct plug.

Are you sure that the plug wires are not cross wired?

Are you sure you have a magneto and not a distributor? The front mount distributor is extremely easy to work on-simply unbolt 2 bolts, take the coil off, and work on it at your workbench where you can carefully set the point gap to .015. Then the distributor can be put back on only one way (unless you don't seat it properly). You might also want to check the timing while the distributor is off-the procedure is outlined in your FO-4 manual or in the archives.

If you have a rare magneto, then you probably have an early 2N, or an 8N with a 2N engine.
