I'm stumped-
2N tractor was running good, didn't use it for a few days and went to start it it would run for a second or 2 and die. Using choke doesn't help. I rebuilt the carb and checked all 3 filters a & used starting fluid in carb and didn't help. Took spark plugs out and look dry, new tune up kit, points, cap, plug, wires, new key switch, have a 12 volt system and don't know if I have a 6 or 12 volt coil. Spark plugs are gettings blue spark. THIS 2N is DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!! !!!Please help!

This may sound like a really stupid suggestion, but I know this has happened to me.....

Did you check to make sure there was enough fuel in the tank to get her fire up??? I know I can add fuel to mine and the bulb has just enough of a leak that it will go dry in about 3 or four days from just sitting, even with the gas turned off. If I look in the tank there is still gas, but just not enough to make it's way into the fuel bulb. I've had your exact symtoms 3 or four times and then added a gallon or two of gas to the tank even though there already appeared to be gas in the tank, and she has always immediately fired right up.

Of course I might be the only one not smart to immediately check for sufficient gas when I have firing problems..... .

just a thought.

Since you have good spark and you have the plugs wired in the correct order after your recent tune-up, I think you have either a carb adjustment problem (too lean) or a leak in the manifold or fuel line. That starting for 2 seconds then dying clearly shows fuel is starved. Make sure you check the air passages for blockage too.

Well it take 3 things for engine to run..... sparkies (you claim blue), fuel (you claim rebuilt carb)..... ..... and COMPRESSION.

Sounds to me like its time to check your compression; Ford specs: 90 psi min.

Its not uncommon for engines that have set for a while to get sticky valves and rings (or worse) and loose compression..... ..... Dell
