Better hope it doesn't need new front spindles!

The de-tasselers were taller and had lengthwise platforms for the pullers to stand on. In our area similar tractors are used for spraying and cultivating rows of staked and tied table tomatoes...much like a vinyard, straddling the rows.

Jim,

I've seen them used for tasslin' corn. (Taking the tassles off so the pollen doesn't spread to other plants.)

Still need to add to my postings. These things had a large tank suspended between the rows which added considerable CG stability. Barrentine in Greenwood, Miss also built them. Some of theirs, I believe, it was them, had a single pull wheel with a Wisconsin engine mounted above it. It was also the steering wheel. I don't recall ever seeing one of these flipped. A mixture of a super wide track and an operator who knew the consequences of stupidity. Multi-purpose made this kit, also, for a "C" Farmall, although I've only seen one of them.

To add to my previous post, the reason ithas fenders "way up there" is because this is the same tractor that was used for fie;ld work. The kit was added or removed as needed. Also, my typo indicated Multi Purpose is "not out of business". This should have read, "now out of business".

These were the fore runners of the "hi-boy or hi-cycle" sprayers. Here in Columbus, Mississippi they were manufactured by Multi Purpose Mfg Co, not out of business. Theye were the same co that manufactured nearly all of the Ford Disc harrows for years. B Alomar finally removed his hi-boy kit a couple years ago and has it stored in his barn.

There is a little Ford dealer just south of Onamia MN
called Tractorland Inc. that has one just like the one on ebay. I stop in there to browse around on occasion and have had a chance to look it over up close and personal. I was told they were built by an aftermarket company for detassling corn.
I don't think I'd want one if I lived in the hills.

Could be a mobile fire tower.
Was this actually a production model or just some ones idea of how to spend money like the jacked up pick up trucks of today?

Hi clearance tractors are used for tall row crops to avoid damaging the crops. All though they don't look quite like this one, high clearance tractors are still made.

I'm thinking vinyard work. The wineries around here have tractors like that. there is one in Hector that is a ford in the thousand series. They usually have harvesting equipment mounted on them.
