I went out and hooked the 5',concrete filled, steel roller up to the 2N last night and we mashed a bunch of mole mounds and whatever else piles dirt up 8 inches high.
It ran fine in 2nd and even pulled the hills pretty well.
I'll be offering up some hack saw blades to the hardened steel gods tonight (adjusting the drive shaft length) and then we will see if the KK finish mower will run OK. It should it only weighs 650# and I keep the grass cut down in the summer.
Little 2N is pretty impressive.

Jim. You might be surprised when you start cutting. On my King Kutter, they cut real easy. The metal wasn't very hard. Good Luck. Ron

Thanks for the encouragement-if you hear cheering from the mid thmb area of Michigan tonight you'll know it went well.

Didn't get to the cutting part last night. We had a real "frog choking-gulley washer" rain storm. Power went out. I have reserve power backup in the form of a generator which kicks on but my shop is not hooked up to it. It's 1 AM and the power is back on so I'll be headed out to take on the project after I've had another cup of coffee. Will let you know later today.

Jim,

Do you have/have access to an abrasive chop saw? I did mine that way, and it's MUCH easier than sawing! The other alternative is a Sawsall with a bimetal blade. Just make sure, whatever way you use, that you de-burr the inside of the tube before re-assembly.

Good luck!

Ron

Good idea.

Actually I have both a chop saw--but no circular cutting blade and a sawall with BiMetal cutting blades. I wish I had the chop saw set to cut metal put the blade would be pretty expensive for just one project-I think. I also have a high speed cutter grinder wheel that might do it easier. If I clamp the drive shaft in a vice and use a 6" cutting wheel I might make shorter work of it. I usually use the hand held grinder for cutting bolts off and wacking chainlinks in two.
Glad you reminded me about the deburring, I'd most likely been so happy to get it cut I'd slap some grease on those puppies - shove 'em together and tried it out.
Nothing like an Aries for getting in a hurry.

I would use the 6" cutting wheel, it will work good . like you said clamp amd go.. wear youre goggles, but if you have a grinder you already know of the sparks, good luck, pat
