I changed the oil in my 2N again and the knocking seemed to quit entirely. I think I may have just plugged an oil passage after putting the clean oil in an engine that had been run at least 10 years without an oil change.
Thanks for your responses

I don't know if you had a pluged oil passage or not but, my question why would any-one leave any engine for 10 years without changing oil? Oil is one of the cheapest maintaince procedures that you can have , including filter it is less that $10. I change all my oils in any vehicle on a regular basis, even change my oil in my lawnmower yearly.

Hey Busdriver,
When I bought my N a few weeks ago the old dude I bought it from assured me it was all winterized, fresh oil, lots of anti-freeze etc. The oil on dip stick was pretty black but I took him at his word, heck he was old and had 4 tractors. Anyway, I figured I better change the oil. Pulled drain plug and not a drop of oil came out. I had to stick a screwdriver in to get the oil to come out there was so much sludge. the oil filter was worse, it was actually rotting, I had to push it out with a punch shoved up the drain hole. Gotta make you wonder how many years between oil changes on the old boy.

Regards

After purchasing my 2N last year, I went to change the oil. The tracor had been painted several years back, many years actually as the paint was faded where the sun hits it. I had to crack the now weather faded paint around the drain plug to change the oil. This tractor ran for several years without an oil chage too. You are right, and I don't understand people either...
