I am looking at 1940 9N. Runs good, no smoke, body rough but solid, paint bad but no rust through. Need 1 rear tire to match other, need two front tires. Radiator needs recore. The guage mount panel "ears" are cracked both sides but in place. The "rim" where shifter enters the case is cracked away on one side about one inch. 6 volt. I plan on blasting, body work and paint plus all the little goodies(seals, steering wheel etc.) she might need. I am familiar w/Farmall but not Ford. Need an estimate. Located in Michigan. Appreciate any advice and estimate on the value as she sits. Want to make offer soon. Thanks

Here's a '40 9N that I know of in a consignment lot. It's been for sale for almost a year. Asking $2500. Has original smooth rear hubs and a Sherman (step up or step down, not sure which). For a long time the starter was gone. Last time I checked on it (last week) the starter was reinstalled. Presumably fixed. Haven't heard it run. I just show it for comparison sake.

Doug, We been buying non running 9n's for $500-$750 that's complete decent sheet metal and free motors. By the time we make them run good {over haul if nessasry} put tires on and paint we get $1850-$2200 for one. That doesn't leave a lot of profit or pay to good of hourly wage. Thats why we do it as a hobby. John

Lessee here. Lets go from a redone example and work back.

'40 N 3000 tops around here, more than likely 2300 or so.
two front tires and tubes.$125
Matching pair of rear tires with new rims to replace those you've got that chances are are rotted: $500
Radiator: $150
Used parts to replace broken ones$100
Paint and supplies for bodywork $250
Tune up stuff, new wiring, steering wheel, gages, $300 roughly...
Your hard labor: ??
Total of this quickie list, I'm sure it is NOT accurate but it's the best I can do off the cuff:
Roughly $1500.
Makes the N worth $800-1500 tops. WITHOUT LABOR! So I'd start at $500 and go up to what I was comfortable with. Remember you will find more expensive things wrong when you get into the job, although you may be able to save money with used tires, swapping for parts, etc. Good luck and welcome to the N world!

I appreciate all the help. At least the paint for the 9N will be less than my usual Farmall red. Again thanks for your help.
