Ok, I did the conversion and also put a new distributor cap, condenser and points in. Could it be the points? I did not adjust them, I put them back on in the same position and approx gap as they were?

The engine turns great, but no fire, yes the gas is on.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave..... ...hadda go down the page and find out what kinda N-Engine ya runnin'..... ..its a square coil frontmount thats been converted to 12 volts. I can tell because you ask questions about the 2 resistors. Its inportant to tell people these kinda things if'n want intellegent and helpful answers.

You say..... ."put.....new points in. Could it be the points? I did not adjust them, I put them back on in the same position and approx gap as they were"..... ..guess what? YES, could very well be the reason your new fancy-dancy 12 volt conversion don't start your tractor.

Incorrect points gap means not enuff sparkies, 6 volts or 12 volts. Gappem right. Points gap is 0.015. Timing is 1/4". The I&T FO-4 manual picture is worth a 1000 words on timing adjustment.

Implied when you say..... .."I put them back on in the same position and approx gap"..... ..you didn't know that to change the points in a frontmount distributor, you simply remove 2-bolts, and work on your distributor on the kitchen table. Its so much eazier, than trying to stick yer head thru the fanblades to see how to install and adjust your points.

The frontmount distributor is driven by an off-set cam drive scheme and can ONLY BE MOUNTED 1WAY, the 2-bolts make it that way..... ...respectfully, Dell
