Went and chatted with my neighbour farmer yesterday. The family has been farming the same land for over a 100 years. They have wore out 2 N's and a couple of Fergie Te20's over the years. He has an older loader there that would fit my 8N.
He says I don't want it, the spindles on these tractors are too light. He says they had nothing but problems on the N's and the Fergies when they used the loader and finally quit using it. What say you guys?

I have a counterweight on the back of mine and it steers much easier now as long as I don't overload the bucket. The "counterweight" is an extra heavey backblade. I had a big chunk of concrete on it before I bought the backblade but it overloaded the 3 pt. It steered like there was no loader.

I refer to "Old Betsy's" loader as a 4 cyl wheelbarrow. Can't carry much weight, but sure beats pushing a wheelbarrow. Everything is done in moderation.

Happy Holiday and lets all have a fun but safe "NEW YEAR"

I have a front end loader on my 8n. Believe you me when i say what not a thing to have on your tractor. I must use mine and the loader puts a lot of strain on her. I'm putting the new steering box on her this spring. The rest of the front end is still ok but by the time i am finished i'll have to redo it it also. For light work it is ok but don't plan to move stable earth with it. It works great if you fill it full of cold beer and ice though.

I have a 44 2N with a Dearborn front loader that runs off a PTO driven pump rear mounted. I hate it. It makes the tractor steer like a log wagon and while plowing snow last week the steering box let go and one front wheel went one way and the other went the other way. I'll have to take the loader off to fix the steering box. When I do it's gonna stay off!

How much do you want for the loader?

Oh I don't know. What are they worth? It may be spring before I get off. It's too darn cold to do it now. I'll post a note on the board when I get it off. Might want to trade for something!

A new Paulsen trip-bucket loader that runs on the internal 3-point hydraulics is $1400.

I've seen used loaders priced from a couple hundred up to about $700. I just recently told my dad (who has a loader on his 2N) that I wasn't interested in one that he said was priced at $250.

While a loader would be nice in the winter for moving the piles when they get too deep (should see the jog in my driveway where it drifted pretty deep), my desire for a loader is not very high.

Someone else closer to you might be VERY interested. While the N isn't an ideal platform for a loader (you've discovered some of the drawbacks), it will work as long as you limit what you try. It's one of those "how much are you willing to spend" questions.

Keith: Dell is right if you have worn steering and worn front end. And I suspect this loader is worn too. But when all of this machinery was relatively new we thought a Ford with a front-pump driven loader was cutting-edge wonderful. For occassional use a light loader on a Ford with like-new steering and like-new front axle parts would still work fine. I'm looking for a one-arm loader for my 841 that doesn't have power steering, but steers very easily without. It's all I knew as a kid. Mike

Keith..... ..your neighbor speaks from experience.

As great a machine the N-Tractor is, they are not great rototiller or frontend loader machines.

I also suspect your friend probably "overloaded" 'em too. It's quite eazy to do.

But if'n thats all you gotts, then ya' rung what 'cha brung..... ...Dell
