My journey started in January when I decided to change my spark plugs. I noticed that coolant was leaking through the head bolts.

Decided to pull the head which revealed some slight scoring on the #1 cylinder. I posted pictures, and the consensus was that I should investigate. So, I pulled the pan and found a crack in the piston skirt which caused the scoring.

Re-assembled with new main bearings, new rod bearings, new pistons & rings. Rebuilt the distributor (including new bushings), rebuilt the carb, and did a bunch of other minor things while in various areas of rebuilding.

Hit the starting button last night and ... nothing. The battery didn't have enough left to turn over a tight engine. In my fury I pulled the battery out of my Jeep, and viola !! It runs better than ever. Quiet, very good oil pressure (almost too good - 80 PSI when cold ???). Doesn't stumble on acceleration. I'm very pleased.

Thanks to everyone on this board for all your help. I bought the F04 (just so Dell wouldn't scold me...), but the F04 alone isn't enough, this board made all the difference.

When I did my rebuild I did a really complete job-everything was upgraded, replaced or machined. When I first fired it up the oil pressure was at 65#'s (hot and cold). For the first month or so it stayed at that pressure and then it dropped to 50# cold and 45# hot. It has been at the 50/45 mark for over a year now. I think it may just need to get through the break in period before it settles down to normal levels.

I did put a new relief valve and spring in it.

Don't know what to think.

Didn't it feel great! My wife does not understand why I like building stuff. She loves the work I do, but not the "drive". It is times like this that makes it worth every minute - seeing a job well done, hearing it run, and using your hard work. Nothing better!

Have a great day!
