I would like some opinions on the best size shredder to buy for a 2N. I was thinking about a 4' or a 5'. Is a 6' too much?

I have a 5' Woods (Dixie Cutter) on my 2N. Mostly for the yard which used to be a hayfield, but occasionally help out neighbors clearing land. If the 2N can run it over, the Woods will chop it up. Blades are fairly easy to remove via access hole on top. Same set of "blades" (chunks of steel being flung about) since 1984. Heavy steel body contains flying rock pieces very well. Bob in NY

I have a 5'Bush Hog brand shredder from the Squeeler series. I use it mainly on my 51 8N and don't have any problems. If the engine is in good shape the 5' model is fine.

I stopped in at TSC a few days ago and got some quotes...
4 foot King Cutter...420lb, $565
5 Foot "" "" 520lb, $595
6 Foot King Cutter...700lb, $695..... ..... .

(weights are shipping weight and include a pallet)

I'd go for a five footer myuself with the minimal price difference from the four footer. The six is too heavy to hang off the back of your N, and you won't have the power to run it unless all you're doing is mowing your lawn every week.

Last year I mowed a large acreage with my '70 4000 Diesel and a five foot Razorback Bush Hog. It was a once a year mowing which meant the goldenrod was over the hood of the tractor in spots. I could only take a half swath in low gear with that setup.

My brother regularly mowed down the weeds in his alpaca pastures with a 2N and a five foot Howse. He had enough power to destroy the Howse hitting things...But when I sold him a 3000 he was a lot happier with the way it mowed. He's pretty tough on stuff, so the fact that the 2N lasted was pretty impressive to me.

I use a 5' because, when clearing land, the brush hog is the same width of my tractors which means you will not hang the brush hog between two trees that the tractor squeezed through. If you only do pastures then bigger is faster.

5 foot max unless you are going to be doing nothing but mowing lawn...
