I had to add some fluid to the tractor to make the lift work properly and added a universal hydrolic fluid and ran it to clean out the drive way from snow I recently read the post about the fluids/oil for the gears and p t o be that was too late My two questions are I added aboput 3/4 of a gallon and ran the tractor about half an hour
is there much damage that could have happened
can I drain out all the oil and replace? what do I ask for at my local TSC or New Holland dealers?any help would be appriciated thanks Jeff

Look in the "Archives" at the top of this page. Llmas has posted what is the definative comparison of the fluids available today.

That's a good suggestion, but I can never find much over there. The most recent post seems to be 9/7/2001.

What keywords would you search for? llmas oil?

There is much debate about what to put in our N trannies.

Ford will recomend the 134a transdraulic oil.

The tractor originally used a gl-1 90wt mineral oil. This can be bought at TSC.. in 2.5 or 5 gal pails.. will be traveler brand I believe, and will actually say for Ford 1939- 1956 tractors or something to that effect.

You might check the oil you used.. if it is a universal transdraulic fluid similar to oh.. hyguard ( new jd 303 equivalent ) it may already meet for 134a specs... It should specify on the label.. or maybee they have a website to look up their product specs / equivalents.

Just yesterday I got this from Mobil Oil:

I would suggest Mobiltrans HD 50. The following is a internet link to the product data sheet:
Technical Support Engineer (WJF)

That technical sheet says this is a GL3 rated lube. What's the difference between the various GL ratings (GL1, GL3, GL5)?

Here's a very lucid and informed opinion on transmission/final drive/hydraulic lube as it relates to N-series machines:
