with the 6 liter V8 3/4 ton 2wd. Anybody out there got one? If so what kind of mileage do you get driving down the road empty, just the truck?

I just got the 2003 Silverado 4x4 2500HC regular cab with 8 foot bed with the 8.1 liter (that's 496 cubic inches) bigblock with a 5-speed Allison automatic tranny and 4.10 gears with a limited-slip diffy. Oh, yeah! Gas mileage? Hah! With the 660 pound Western snowplow on board, the sucker weighs 6000 pounds, before adding passengers.

I'm thinking of buying my own oil-producing country. Either that, or Mobil's going to have a serious rise in it's 2003 earnings. Oh well, I didn't get the bigblock for the mileage. By the way, I don't understand why they won't list the mileage on the truck's window sticker. Makes me wonder. My mileage is just plain awful, but it's better than the mileage from the '92 GMC it replaces with the worn-out 350.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question. My stepdad has a Chevy 2WD 2002 1/2 ton with the 6.0 liter, extended cab with short bed and 3.73 gears. He's very pleased with his mileage, sometimes better than 20 mpg.

Good luck with your new ride.

Bri

They don't list the mileage on any 3/4 ton and up trucks, it's not required when the GVW is over 8,000 lbs. Off topic, but, diesels do much better, my F-250 gets 18-19 in the summer with 444 cubic inches, and almost 600 lb ft of torque.
Note: I am not trying to start a truck war.

Mine is a 2000 3/4 ton HD 4X4 with the 6L V8. In 2wd and empty truck, I get 13 mpg during the WNY winter season. The gas mileage improves to just under 15 mpg in the summer.

Gee, I don't feel bad now. That is what I get with my 1992 F250 Xcab 4x4 w/8' bed. I have a 7.8L (460), Automatic w/overdrive. It will pull anything I put behind it. Just don't try to stop fast. I must say the brake system is rather weak.
