Still having trouble starting my 52-8N. I was looking at the distributor and found the following-
1- there is a plastic cap under the rotor- I can't find this part in the FO-4 manual. is this normal and is it needed?
2- there is no oiler and wick on the distributor body. there is a hole, and it looks like it is filled with dirt. is this normal? I would think it is needed.
3- can't find a part number on the distributor, where is it located?

Lastly, what brand of points, condenser, rotor, rotor-cap, and sparkplug wires would you advise I purchase?

Roy, thanks for your reply.

On this oiler under the grime, you make this sound like a "zert fitting" in a hole. is this the picture??? and if it is, what sort of tool do you use to get in the hole and apply enough pressure to depress the spring loaded ball to apply the oil???

If you have a '52 8N your serial number is 442035 or greater. The distributor on that model is numbered: 8N12127. The Lubrication Oiler is located just to the left of the Primary Termal (outside of the distributor). And, yes there is a plate covering the points and condenser.
A great publication showing details such as this is found in the Ford Shop Manual for 9/2/8N tractors and can be purchased (among other places) from I&T Shop Services. Just follow the link below. I got both my 8N and Cub books from them direct.
Merry Christmas
