I replaced (almost) all the 12 volt conversion items on the tractor (53naa), and just fired it up. I get just over 13 volts. (@ approx 600rpm) Is this acceptable??? I was thinking it should have been 14 volts. Also I don't get any movement on the amp meter, perhaps because the battery is fully charged, but I did expect to see some movement. Sorry I'm rambling.....13 volts is that good??

Try getting a smaller diameter pulley for the alternator. Smaller diameter will run faster. with tractor engines maxing out at 2 G rpm the alternator doesn't spin as fast as it would on the car. Got to speed it up a little. Regards Rich

Rich,

Good advice. I'll try a range of speeds, and check voltages, then post.

Dell's suggestion is good. Certainly the voltage should be higher w/engine running. One thing, though. You mentioned 600 RPM. Remember, most alternators need about 1200 RPM (at the alternator) to charge properly. I don't know where your 600 is (engine or alternator), but try the voltmeter as Dell says, and WIND 'ER UP to 2000 engine RPM and see what happens. DickTN

Fessman..... ....1st check, what does your battery read BEFORE you start it up? 2nd check, what does your battery read AFTER you start it up? It better read MORE after starting or ya gotts sumptin misswired because ya ain't gittin enny amps. 'Course ammeter could be not even innna circuit or it could flat be bad or major inaccurate, hard to tell from this farr way..... ...Dell

Dell,

I'm going to test and record various speeds, including not running.
