Here lately i have to put the charger on the battery first thing in the morning to get it to start but once started it will start fine the rest of the day. Question is,i tested the battery with a volt meter and it shows 6 volts but when i push the starter button it goes down to 3.5 volts and won`t turn the engine over. Do i need a new battery? The starter was rebuilt just a few months ago and it has a new solenoid. Thanks,Terry

befor you have the battery checked, give the battery a good charge, then have it checked.

Terry..... ...while the starter will suck the battery down when starting, 3.5 volts is MUCH TOO LOW. Normal is about 5-5.5. You've gotta bad cell.

Take yer battery in for free load check. While and when local auto-parts store often have the size 1 (?) 6 volt battery you need, they're not really very rugged. If you want your tractor battery to last, get a real 6 volt tractor battery.

I was so impressed by John Deere's (bite my tongue) custom made batterys, I put 2 of 'em in my Dodge Cummins Diesel when I needed new. About 1/2 price of local Dodge stealers and 3/4's price of DieHard..... ...Dell
