Dear Frie-N-ds:

This is the tail light from my NAA Jubilee; I don't know if it's original equipment but it may well be; the plastic lens is labeled "DUOLAMP C1" at the top, with a "FoMoCo" script logo underneath, and says "A'S'A" and "STIMSONITE NO. 37A" at the bottom:

The lamp works intermittently, and I've found the problem; the wire is not well-connected to the bulb socket somewhere inside the rubber boot on the back of the shell and bracket (the bracket is spot-welded to the shell):

Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the rubber boot so I can repair the electrical connection? The rubber has become very brittle (and was also painted by someone, which may be why). Is there something I can use to soften it up, or can I just cut it away and replace it with something similar? Also, do you have any suggestions about repairing the cracks in the plastic?

Thanks.

We have one of those rear lights on our 640.

This is a NCA part# (1955-1957) tail lamp, since lights were dealer installed the farmer may have had the lights put on a few years after the tractor was bought, did you try cleaning or brushing the socket for a better connection?

This looks to me to be a tail light from an X01 series tractor. The NAA used the same light bracket as the 8N. I think all these X01 lights were attached to the bracket so you had to replace the entire unit- light and bracket.

Looking at the picture closer, I think this is actually an earlier tail light- not for the X01 series, but more for the X00 series. I beleive this is the first tail light to use a plastic lens (rather than glass) that fits over the housing, not held in place with a rim.

Yes, I did clean the socket; the problem is definitely in
the connection between the wire and the socket base; by
moving the wire appropriately I can make it connect and disconnect predictably.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have to decide whether
to fix this non-NAA light or find one that's a better match.

"NAA used the same bracket as the 8n"

Does that mean it also used the same light? I hope so,
'cause the one from the 8n looks a lot more stylish in
my opinion. If it wasn't the same light, can you describe
or show it to me? Thanks.

If your not in any hurry to fix it you can cover it with silicone grease and it will soften it up but it will take some time.
