This is a picture of the 50-52 8N Generator Bracket on a 2 Brush Generator. The bolt on the water pump plate works with this one. Mark H.

Yep Willy that is the 1950-1/2 thru 1952 8N set up. But Just a few notations, the generator bracket is attached to the U-bracket correctly but the generator appears to be an incorrect rebuilt replacement. The generator is not correctly positioned on the adjustable bracket. It is way too far forward, the correct generator would mount with the end about flush with back of the mounting saddle when saddle pin is engaged in the generator positioning hole. It is a vented generator with the strip added to close off the vents, originals of this period were non vented. The drive pully is mounted backwards, the flange should only clear the case by about 1/4". Keep up the great effort with your parts and photos, we really appreciate your efforts!! And don't pay any attention to those who crab about E-Bay, ignore them and they will go away!!

Wish I had it to look at but this was gone a while back and I had the picture in my files. When I cleaned it up I just sliped the bracket back on. That is interesting about the pulley others have been closer but I do not remove them for cleaning. There are so many little things to keep track of on these Ns!! Mark H.

You bet there is! Many parts updates and owner changes over the years. I am still working on finding out the ins and outs of the side mount engine generators that were changed to "B" circuit from "A" and as to why. Also trying to find out if changing circuitry was for a good reason or a mistake. Also, do not know what the armature and field differences may be. Been working on that one alone for five years now!! Many of these suttle differences are clouded by time, that is why documentation such as what you do is important to owners and collectors alike. I do have good photos of the correct generator installation on the 1950-1/2 thru 1952 8N.

The generator on my 52 8N was changed to 'b' circuit, unbeknownst to me.. ( or the previous owner.. as he had the wrong v-reg on it, and it wouldn't charge.. and he was baffled... )

I took in the reg and gen to my local shop, and the gen was fine.. just wrong reg... all works fine now.

So does anyone have the story on why there are some 'b' circuit generators out there?

Is this an oddity from locl shops rebuilding them with different parts?

It apparently is not an oddity as I hear of them often. I fail to have found what is good or bad as to the "B" circuit choice. I too have often found re-built generators with the wrong parts most often end plates from early and late 8N's switched, switched armatures, fields or both is possible. Another possible reason being the old rebuilders catalogs do not show a mid year 1950 change, just show the side mount generator as a 51-52, more confusion. Also Ford did change to the "B" circuit starting with I believe the NAA and certainly the 100 series so maybe there was a reason to update the 8N generator. Last but not least it may have been a better idea of Ford rebuilders as they have a tendency to make things to updated production.

So, at some point when these parts come in for service, the rebuilders may be 'updating' them to the newer standard that ford had ( 'b' circuit ).

Makes sense. I wonder what the main difference is in the b to a circuit.? Different way field is controlled?

anyway, thanks.

Mark, I've been"looking" at your "nice" parts.Sure is great to see someone "helping" those who need good parts to keep their LITTLE JOY going. One can appreciate these parts if they came up in the depression & war years.Back then it was hard to come by parts and money to keep going.OOPS, I may be telling my age.Yes I can still remember the war bonds and ration stamps. Good ole days ??? Keep up the nice work buddy !!

Thanks for the comment! It suprising on how some of these parts are in such good shape for 50 years old while others are junk! I have a new toy to work on it is a 1939 Briggs & Stratton Maytag Engine I picked up at a sale yesterday for $3.00 !!! It was complete and in running condidtion! My new Weed eater dosen't run and is under warentee and this one is 63 years old and still runs! Tell me they don't make them like they used too! Mark H.
