2N brakes and gaskets

I decided to do a brake job on my 47 2N. Pulled the trumpet and fixed the lower link pin leak. Replaced the PTO seal. I had the axle bearings and outer seals replaced. I have Sure-Seals on the inboard side with the bearings packed with grease. My question has to do with the gaskets. On the right hand side there will be a paper gasket on the bearing hub, then the brake backing plate, then another paper gasket between the backing plate and the trumpet. Nice leak free set-up (hopefully). This was what I found during disassembly. On the left side are those leaking metal shims, 2 of them. The shims are the correct thickness to obtain the proper bearing adjustment. Trying to think ahead, the assembly of the left side would have a paper gasket on the hub, then the brake backing plate, then another paper gasket, then 2 shims, then the trumpet. Where I see a problem is 2 shims, metal to metal, against the trumpet. The reason for gaskets is to seal metal to metal surfaces against leaks. What is going to stop the trans-hydraulic oil from leaking at the shims (like it was)? Gasket cement? Silicone, RTV, gasket in a tube? Any thoughts or success stories? I was told transmission fluid will dissolve silicone gasket.

Thanks

Use a brush on liquid gasket sealer like aviation permatex on the metal and paper shims, if you use silicone it will increase the thickness and give endplay and make the seal lip wear out quickly.
