I have a '51 8n. Rebuilt in '99. I have always had trouble with the engine kickin and sputterin, cutting out, and eventually dying, after 30 minutes of use. At first I can run the brush hog for about 15-20 minutes, and then the engine just dont want to work. I have put in a new carb kit, didnt help.... PLEASE HELP>>>

Earl, I'm with Dell on this one, It really does sound like 2 that I have worked on in the past and in both cases it was the Ignition switch. For the price of one, I would replace the switch and try it again. A toggle switch will also act as a test switch, but it's not a good idea to leave it in place. Ron

Earl..... ....one of the founding members of this N-Board used to claim 80% of all N-Carb problems were found and solved in the ignition system.

While the sidemount '51 8N ignition coil is more robust than the frontmount '50 8N, it could be going bad

BUT.....your description of running for 15 minutes is typically a gunked up ignition switch that "cures itself" overnite (or cools off). If you doubt, jumper your ignition switch with clippie lead. Or trust me, just replace your ignition switch..... ..... Dell
