I just want to say thanks for everyone thats helped me with my many questions on here. I'm a newbie to this part of the tractor world as I never, until the last few months began to work and piddle with tractors. I purchased a "project" 1947 2N a few months ago to give me something worthwhile to do during freetime.

My Question is:
I recently changed the points and condensor and I'm getting juice to the distributor, but I think its grounded or shorted to the shaft. I discovered this when it brushed against part of the tractor and sparked.

In the archives I found a post where Claus said to use an insulator at the concentric screw to solve the problem. Is that what I need to do or is it something entirely different?

Tom, Remove the dist from the Tractor, leave coil on the dist and the Wire connected to the top of the coil. Jumper wire the "DIST" frame to "tractor" frame. Remove Dist Cap and rotate the Shaft to close the points. Turn ignition Key "ON".. the ammeter should read ~ (near to) 3 amps discharge is normal. Rotate the Shaft to open the points and ammeter = 0.0 Amps

If using a voltmeter connect one Probe to the Coil Top Wire and the Other Probe to the Pigtail connector on the base of the coil = ~ 2.6 Volts when points are closed. Rotate the shaft until points are "Open" = 0.0 Volts.

If ammeter or voltmeter do not measure 0.0 when
the points are "OPEN" it indicates a "Short" in the Dist .. most likely the Concave screw

Hope this Helps
