my 12 volt conversion is complete. What a surprise,,,, it runs. Thanks to Dell and others whose valuable advice and experience helped immensely. One question though, the ammeter reads a little less than ten. is that where it is supposed to be?

I would check the voltage output of the gen. It should be around 6.5-7.0 v. The amp draw to the bat depends on the state of charge, if it is low, the current flow will be greater. But I would not be too concerned with yours, these meters are not that accurate anyway.

Screamer..... ....+ 10 amps a little high if ammeter is in good calibration, but most tractor ammeters are just an indicating approximation. Right now, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Watch your battery water level. If you have to constantly top-up the battery you really are overcharging..... .....Dell

The purple pimp lights under the hood cast an eerie glow on the battery and engine block. And I think I got the running lights on the correct sides, red for port and green for starboard? right? Even put a water proof cigarette lighter receptacle on the dash. (Never know when I might want to go spotting deer at night) Actually, it is to power my inverter so I can use some low watt power tools at remote locations. I might even get around to fixing the head lights. (The old headlight wires were all cut away, but I looked at the wiring for the lawn tractor headlights and it seems simple enough.)

Now that's a reason, purple pimp lights!
You got me thinking now.
