Ma sold her farmette. Since I've got a 2n, she gave her 48 8n to my bro. He's keeping at my place, in the field (no room in barn). It does run fairly well but does need some work, mainly electrical. Money is a problem, so my bro's gonna change oils/filters, drain radiator/block, oil the cylinders and let'er sit. Wife says I can't spend a dime, already asked.
Anything else? Should it be covered/tarped?
TIA....don t. .....

my tractor sat about 20 years in the open with no preparations. my father then replaced the rear tires put in new points, then it sat about another 10-15 years under an open shed, now she sets pretty much in the open, I am really surprised it is in any repairable condition at all considering the first 20 years of its life it was the primary tractor on a 500-800 acre cotton/corn/cattle farm!!!

I remember Dell saying to put a bucket over your shifter to make sure no water gets into the shifter. better afe then sorry. Sun also kills tires.

Drain or stabilize the fuel. You can also get fogging spray from most marine dealers and spray in the intake to lube up the valves. You may want to block it up so the tires are off the ground. If it doesn't work out I'm in SE Wi and interested in another N.

I know you mentioned that you can't spend a dime however this is what I did. Cost about $180. I figure that I can sell this tractor for about 2800 in present condition so what is 180 in preventive maintenance. Good Luck!

...snow is an issue where I live (N. Ill.).
Hows the roof? Someone down the street from me has something similar (round top roof). They used a blue tarp for the roof & sides. By the middle of the winter, the tarp was torn to pieces. I do have some left over metal siding from a lean to. Could one screw the siding to the top of that structure? Use the tarp for the sides?
Thanks much....don t. ....

The Roof uses bunge straps and is thicker than the cover tarps you can buy in the store. Plus the angle is pretty steep. Its also supported underneath with 4 frame pieces and one that runs the length of the top center. A buddy of mine just rebuilt his barn and has some left over sheet metal. I was considering putting that onto the poles as well for the side. Main concern would be to make sure the poles arn't weighted by the siding. If I do that I will post the updated picture.

You might be better off actually using it occasionally rather than letting it sit. No matter how hard you try you will probably experience a certain level of decay by storing it outdoors. You might also consider selling it (unless there is sentimental value) and then purchasing another when you are ready for it. This would also help the no money problem.

I agree w/using it, but when dad died 3 yrs ago, the neighbor became the "expert" tractor mechanic (ma lived 12 hrs away). He threw in a 12 volt battery, you know what happened then. I had an extra 6 volt(older) that I put in but aint done anything else. I know the coil is toast, but it does start, runs smooth, don't smoke. Im gonna do a compression test this weekend. Thanks much....don t. ....

Try to convince brother to get the tractor somewhere indoors. I have a whole fleet of 7 N's in progress and I am disgusted at the decay after two years storing under tarps over gravel or even over tin roof pieces. All paintwork is going to have to be redone, the gages are rotting from moisture, and even the rims are rusting.Tires seem fine, tho. I'm selling off rather than trying to wait until I have a building.Even my steel wheeled"keeper" is going. Hopefully to someone who can put her inside. If you cannot get it indoors, coat the whole thing with old motor oil or clear rustproofing, and block the clutch. Build a frame out of old lumber to keep the tarp off it, and tarp it.Try to keep it ventilated so condensation doesn't ruin whatever the mice don't get into. Use it or lose it... that's been my sad experience. Good luck!

Unfortunatly he sold his house, living in an appt. and is getting his CDL for OTR driving. I wanna buy it but he says no way(not that I've got any more money than him). We aint the original owners but ma & pa did own it for 22 years. Thanks for the clutch tip. I do have some left over metal siding, just need some 2X4's.
Thanks....don t. ....
