Lift Ain't Lifting!

Question for you 3PT Gurus,

1941 9n, refurbished w/3pt totally rebuilt. New 2N piston, relief valve, control valve, honed cylinder (nice, tight fit), control spring and yoke cleaned, new packing etc. I can spin the yoke by hand, got it a little more than hand tight.

Lift won't lift. LOTS of fluid pumping up thru the top of the pump unit, PTO is spinning. Control lever fork is connected to the relief valve, lots of oil, cylinder and piston in good (new) shape. When I removed the quadrant and touch lever, I reinstalled them with all the tension removed from the cork disc. The touch lever doesn’t appear (or feel) like it’s connected to anything.

With the PTO spinning and the pump doing it’s thing, shouldn’t I feel some kind of mechanical pressure on the touch control? I’ve got nothing. Should the touch control/quadrant be in the 12 o’clock position or the 3 o’clock position when I reinstall?

I was reading in the FO-4 about checking to see if the control valve moves when the touch lever is rotated. I'll give it a shot, but getting my wife to help with this situation is out of the question.

I really don’t want to pull the top cover back off. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Mikey

for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all...first the oil pressure and now the hydraulic's...Bummer...
Scott, was it working before and then stopped functioning?
I don't think you have a choice but to remove the cover and see whats unhooked...but I'd bet by the time you've read this its already off...
I'm just PWHUA...

Yeppers,

Prior to the rebuild, it worked EXTREMELY slow, and dropped from top to bottom in 10 sec w/ the engine off.

Now if I made the hydraulics out of some maple, white oak and ebony wood the bugger would probably work just fine!

'course then it would probably catch fire....
