Hi all,

I love this web-site. It is full of very usefull information.

Anyways, I have just bought a 1940 Ford 9N tractor. I was going through the wiring of the tractor when I noticed that the "Engine Hours" gauge was disconnected. I have not been able to find out how this gauge is suppose to be wired in. Does anyone out there in Ford 9N land know where the wires to the "Engine Hours" gauge go to???

Any information would be of help. Thanks in advance.

Jason

ON MY HOUR METER, I INSTALLED A 5 PSIG NORMALLY OPEN OIL PRESSURE HOB IN THE OIL SYSTEM. I WIRED THE HOUR METER IN SERIES THROUGH THE OIL HOB. THIS WAY, ONLY WHEN THERE IS 5 PSIG OIL PRESSURE OR MORE DOES THE HOUR METER COLLECT HOURS. IF THE ENGINE DIES AND THE SWITCH IS LEFT ON, THE HOUR METER WILL NOT RUN. THIS IS HOW MOST INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT IS WIRED. PHILIP.

Wire it to the ignition switch...The right hand side of the ballast resistor looking at it from the back... Although in theory the hour meter will run when the ignition is on, it should approximate the engine hours unless you are one of those that forgets to turn off the ignition switch when you are through which could cause other problems..
Happy motoring

Claus,

Thanks for your information. I have one last question, where does the other wire on the left side of the side of the ballast resistor looking at it from the back go to? Is it a ground?

Thanks for all your help,

Jason

Voltage from the ignition switch goes in one side of the ballast resistor and the other side goes to the coil. The front mount distributor likes 3.2 volts with points closed. The resistor provides that reduction.

(Claus taught me that)
