Thanx everyone, I was wondering if I could modify a 134 into a 172 next time I rebuild one, looks like a sleeve amd manifold change so far.

The bore of a 134 is too small to accept the sleeves from a 172. I think the blocks are the same and it might be possible to bore the 134 block out enough to use 172 sleeves.

The guy you should talk to is Tony Jacobs over on the Ford board. He's pretty busy and sometimes only checks in every couple of weeks, but he knows these hundred series Fords inside and out. He'd be able to tell you how much work it would be to enlarge a 134 to a 172.

134 measures 3.44" x 3.60"--48.8 brake HP
172 measures 3.90" x 3.60"--62.6 brake HP
Carburetion is the same although jet size may be different.

Hope this is what you're lookin' for.

According to info on Dan Dibben's site, carburetors are different on 134 and 172 engines. Stud spacing is different prohibiting interchange of the two. It also says that main jet sizes differ according to engine size. But then further down the page there is a table showing carb specs and the jet sizes look the same, so I'm kinda confused. I know my 172 equipped '55 850 has a Marvel-Schebler TSX593 on it.

I replaced the cracked manifold on my NAA (134) with the manifold off a 172 and had the elongate the holes just a tad for a good fit for the NAA carb. For all practical purposes I would say that they are interchangable but the 172 manifold would flow better for the larger pistons.

Jim, I just measured the stud spacing on my Jub and my 850 and they both measure about 2 3/8" center to center. Of course, it is dark in the shed and the flashlight could have caused me to be unable to read exactly. Dan may and is probably right on that if he stated it. I have not been to his site in a looong time. I have never noticed any differences between the carbs on the two tractors. I can not see the #s on the carbs, both MS.

Here's some engine specs. Poke around the site I've linked and I think you'll find carburetion info, too.
