Dell you had it pegged. There's an insulator inside the distributor behind the copper primary lead that connects to the points. For some reason it was shorting-out there. I found a thin fiber washer that I didn't used in my carb kit and used it and voilla...it fired right up. It's got oil pressure (about 25 pounds at idle), but I have a major oil leak coming out of the top of the oil filter cannister. Not worried about that because I probably forgot to tighten the bolt - duh! It did blow some black liquid crap out of where the exhaust pipe connects to the manifold when it fired, but it quit. I guess they don't make a gasket for this connection, at least I haven't seen one if they do. Well I'm going back out to clean-up the oil and fix the leak, then fire that puppy back up again just so's I can listen to it run. Maybe I'll have a couple of cold ones during the process. Thanks again!

Greg

Sometimes the lid gasket moves when tightening or is the leak under the bolt, I had to make a gasket for the bolt on mine. But I live aways from the parts store. You better buy plenty of beer these things get real good fuel milage. Have fun & play safe.

Can I borrow your trailer?

Still can't get that oil leak to stop, and I'm talkin oil leak major. I guess that means I've got good oil pressure. There's a gasket under the cover but maybe I'm not getting it lined-up right.

Great!!! There is a gasket in the lip of the lid that needs to be in there ans a copper washer under the bolt that holds the lid on. Mark H.

"Cool!!! she runs!!! Good job!!!"

And if I hadn't had the help from "all" of the great people on this board I probably wouldn't have gotten this far. And too, through this board I've made a lot of good friends, (some of which I've met personally), which is equally if not more important. Now if I can get this oil leak stopped I'm going to just sit and listen to it run till I run out of gas, or beer, whichever comes first. LOL!
