I have nearly completed an 28by28 foot work shop with 8by16 foot jig on one side for large work bench....has two large rolling bay doors. My son is an ex machanic so we have a good collection of the most common Snap-on hand tools...here's the question? What other type of equipment would I need to have a well rounded shop? What kind of shop equipment do some of you guys have? I would be interested in any and all ideas.

28 X 28? That might be enough just to hold the tools.

I carry my shop in a steel box.

Hack saw
Hammer
Screwdriver (xxlarge regular only)
2 Adjustable wrenchs (one small one xx large)
WD-40
Lock jaw pliers.

If I can't fix it with those it ain't worth fixin'

Good luck with the shop!

By the way Where in Maine are you? I live near Skowhegan.

It's not the size of the shop, it's how you use it. Maybe I just have shop envy.

A weed-whacker is the most essential item in my shop. I use to find my tractor and parts when I get time to contemplate working on it...

Frank,
Some of the things I would have:

1. LOTS of lighting. One good way is put your normal bank of lights on one switch and add a second bank on another switch. Also portable work lights. Once you have all that light, you won't believe how you got by without it.

2. Ventilation. When you use all the nasty chemicals (cleaners, paints, ect.) you really need plenty of fresh air.

3. Large, heavy-duty bench vise. If you can afford the Wilton 8" machinist vise, you will love it.

4. Good tool boxes and parts storage.

I guess you get the idea ... it never ends!

HTH, John
