First I want you to all know I have read the archives but still have a few questions. I am in the process of rebuilding a 9N hybrid and do not feel like going the acrylic enamel way for paint - mainly health reasons. I went down to the store today and was told about Krylon epoxy paint that comes in rattle cans. According to the sales guy, you know them, it is suppose to be real durable and hard to fade - everything fades here in Texas. He stated that it not as good as acrylic enamel but it certainly comes close.

Have any of you ever tried it? Comments?

Just finished rebuilding the tranny and have it ready for paint with the steering and the dash(stripped to bare metal, treated, and epoxy primed).

Thanks for your advice.

I'm in the process of giving my tractor a 50/50 paint job. It's gonna look good from 50 feet away at 50 m.p.h.. I found a " Sunrise Red" at Ace Hardware that looks good on the bottom and an "Almond" that perfectly matches the color found on top of the gas tank and the underside of the hood. My tin is rusty and dented so I'm not worried about it being perfect. Anybody have a battery door that I could patch together for cheap? I just want to fill the hole in the hood!

Freddy,

I see no one will take on your question about the 'rattle-trap spray can method'. The above '48 is also a hybrid with a '52 dash (from Palmer Fossum) and 4 gauges, '52-style embossed fenders, '49 engine, etc. Over the 23 years I have had it in the woods it has had a number of dents in the hood, fenders, grille, etc. On top of that it was always blue and gray and it was a poor runner.

About a year ago someone posted a question like yours and a response was to the effect that Walmart sold a Krylon Banner Red (#2108) and Pewter Gray in spray cans that worked fine and looked good (for working tractors).

They will probably make a lot of fun of you for not going acrylic enamel (especially if you dare post pictures of your machine on this forum), but for the tiny amount spent on paint, I feel the results are justified. Spent the money I saved on implements and mechanical repairs, etc. HTH

BTW you might also get a dishonorable mention on a list of what not to get for your tractor for Christmas.
