I had a old ford that went through the massive fire in Heber Arizona. The tractor has personal value concerning my grandfather that passed on and I want to repair it if I can. The fire burned the tractor and everything around it. The fire cracked the cement and warped the tire frames, so I figure that the fire must have been around 1800-2200 degrees. The tractor is all metal mostly, and I figure that it may be able to be saved. What does everything else think? Would the heat make the frame/engine/etc unable to be restored or make usable within reason? Thanks

Without seeing the damage caused by the fire it's hard to say, I work at a late model salvage yard and have seen my share of burnt cars and trucks, I've seen trucks burnt so bad that the rear axles have bent just from the whieght of the truck. As far as the motor, do like was said and oil it up, you may find "ALL" gaskets are now toast, and I mean "ALL" gaskets, seals, etc. and that the valve springs have lost there temper(Seen this alot) And most of all, look for cracks is the cast iron.
Can you post a pic? or e-mail me one and I'll post it for you.

later,dave

I would be willing to bet that there are a bunch of n series out there with more sentimental than monetary value. Before I gave up on this one I would treat it like it had been sitting for a decade--i.e put some MMO in the cylinders, roll the engine with the crank nut, change the hydralic fluid, and try to borrow enough parts to see if it will run.

Lots of insurance company totals are really constructive total losses and get rebuilt by somebody with the correct motivation. If you are willing to sink your time in it and if none of the cast is broken or warped it can be done. Depends on how much the tractor means to you.

Your mileage may vary

I have no way of knowing the extent of damage to the internal parts of your tractor from the intense heat, warped crank , trans. shaft , gears , I assume sheet metal and wireing is gone , Even if this was a newer tractor the insurance co. would call it a total loss, ( THE CARB IS COOKED, THE RADIATOR IS MELTED, ALL RUBBER IS GONE, CAST IRON PARTS ARE ??? ) pistons are frozen to cylinder walls ? Sorry to say I think I would just walk away , its your dollar .
