....Hello...new to all this...the 8N and the forum...Just bought an early 8N and have it home and running good, but lots of little things to ask about and do on it!!!!!...First of all any suggestions on the best way to remove engine oil and greese etc????...Or should I just stick with the engine spray (Gunk etc????)...Oh yea and how about the oil filler cap???...Its says front, does that mean the front toward you on the left side as you look at the engine>>> or does it mean to the front of the tractor????....Chuck

Front, back, right, left, - all as you sit on the seat with your hands on the steering wheel.

Oil fill cap = left side of engine towards front of tractor.

Hope this helps.

N - joy.

Get you some spray oven cleaner (I use Oven Brite by Zep) Spray it on your whatever, leave overnite, if you can wait that long, and pressure wash it off next day with hot water if possible. Really cleans goop, dirt, grease up good. It will take some paint, so if you don't plan to paint forget this effective method. After cleaning, you can treat your rust with rust sealer, then spray with wd 40 or spray lubricant to further retard rust until you're ready to paint. Then pressure wash again, wire brush, prime and paint. Use gloves. Good N-ing.

First of all, congratulations on the "new" tractor! For removing the grease, I've found that the standard de-greasers work pretty good, but it takes a lot cans to do the job right. Some good old fashioned soapy water and a lot of scrubbing will get it done a whole lot cheaper. Just keep whatever you use away from anything electrical. As for the oil cap, the word front should point toward you as you look at the left side of the engine. Good luck with your tractor!

The engine oil breather -is- the oil fill cap. It's on the approx 1-in. tube with baffles in it just to the left of the oil dipstick. Have Fun.

Don't forget to have some gasket material on hand to fashion a new oil plug gasket out of, mine always seems to tear when I take it off.
