Hi, I have a 1945 2n,It was working perfectly this past fall but then it just stopped running when it was out in the field. The starter moter would turn and the and the radiator fan, etc. But the engine would not start.I tryed starting it a couple of times this past fall but did not have time to fiddle with it. It sat in the barn all winter and the battery lost its charge. Yesterday I charged the battery, and the engine started right up, However, after about 15-30 minutes of running it (Pulling a disc) it just stoped again. It would not start back up, but after 5 minutes of letting it sit it started again only to die 20-30 minutes later. The fuel flow seems To be goof so I think it is a Electrical problem.

What could the problem be? The key switch for the ignition was replaced years ago with just a regular toggle switch and has been working fine so, i don't think its the switch.

My question is could it be a bad starter coil? Is the coil in constant use when the engine is running or is it just needed to create the initial spark? Could it be the starter coil resistor is going bad?

If their is a short ssomewhere in the distributer would the engine even run for 30 minutes? Basically Im new to engines / tractors and I don't know how to trouble shoot the sympthoms. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Dan Yocom (in PA)

Don:

On the left of your screen, go down to "Research & Info" click on "Search this site". Then type in, Front Mount Coil. You can do this for just about any problem you have with the tractor. Hope this helps and good luck.
