I am at my witts end with this 6 volt electrical system. A few days ago I had an electrical fire because I did not wire any fuses into the electrical system and today the coil resistor assembly behind the dash got real hot and started smoking but stoped when I turned off the ignition switch. Do any of you have any idea what could be causing that.

Thanks in advance!!

It is normal for the resistor to get hot in "normal" operation. I am not sure what you current situation is. Did the "electrical fire" damage the wiring harness and/or other components? You should not have had a "fire" unless something is wrong. Describe your current situation more fully and we will assist in troubleshooting the problem.

The resistor will get red hot normally if the switch is left on while the engine is not running. This is caused by the resistance to the current coming from the electrical source. (Battery)

This is what makes your light shine when you turn the light switch on in your house. Resistance to the current in the light bulb filiment which is the same thing as the resistor in your N electrical circuit to the coil. It just doesn't glow quiet as brightly and is not in a vaccumm tube.

Was it brand new? They'll smoke when new.
