I have a 9N that lately will not run unless choked fully. It starts right up, will run if choke is held, quits when it is released. I thought it was fuel, but seems to flow to carburetor o.k., I put in new points, etc. tried to adjust to manual's specs. New coil as well, now it will not start, I set points at .17, seem to open at correct spot, 1/4 inch gauge. Still will not start.

Jack, there are several things that can cause your symptoms. Carburator, weak spark, vacuum leak. I would start by making sure the electrical stuff is ok and that you have a good spark through the plugs. Then make sure you have good fuel. Then check for a vacuum leak, particularly around the intake part of the manifold.

May be carb rebuild time. Not expensive and not hard. Chances are you got everything full of rust down there. My main jet was twice what it should have been on the setting before I rebuilt the carburetor a while back and you had to choke it to death to crank and it took a while with the choke out to warm up.

Now, it turns over about once and cranks with all the proper settings.

Same thing happened to me this spring, just put in a new coil, points, cond, and overhauled the carb.drove me NUTS! I had fuel, spark, and compression. Mine was a WEAK COIL! the choke provides a richer mixture, eaier to burn.Try a different coil. Reno J.
