All are attached with the Klez virus. Received these in the last 3 days. I get about 3 or 4 per day. Thank you anti-virus software.

Hmmmm....

Once again I feel left out. I've been running nothing but Macs in my company for 10 yrs...and used them at other companies exclusively for 8 years before that. I think I had a virus in '93. I haven't seen one since then. :=)

Are you saying you never sent an e-mail to someone on the N board? and you don't have anyone here in your address book? or someone here haveing you in there address book?

This virus mails it's self useing your address book, who ever has all the e-mail address's that Tyman posted in there address book is the one who has this virus. Is that right Tyman??

I went to a site linked off this board a while back and my virus scan went nuts. I left the site and have not been back since. I run McAfee online continuously and have not had a problem, but often times don't open anything with an attachment if I am unsure of the sender. You are right, someone on this forum must have the infection. Thanks for the headsup.

I get 3 or 4 every day, It is someone that has my address and my kids addresses. I don't download anything anymore without conformation that is was sent by them. I update my AV every other day.If I send them a download i first send a email that it is coming and have told them not to download anything without conformatin.
If you do get it what reactions do you get on you're computer? What should be watched for?

Tyler,
I am starting to get a bunch of Klez mails. I've been gone since 6/13 through 6/21 and my computer has been shut down. I'm running the KLEZ-fix as soon as I get off here and have updated my AVG every two days since I got it.
Did you read about the new virus that rides on jpg's? That's going to be a real mess when it get out.

Probably gonna be best to set up a rule in Outlook Express to Delete all email with attachments. Seems like the thing to do. McAfee has some kind of spam killer out. Don't know how it works. May have to check into it.

I just ran KlezFix and it found no inferstation in my computer. Now, if everybody on this site would run it, maybe we could eliminate it.

You can also use the site below to test your 'puter for 'most' current viruses.

Or just don't use the 'Address Book' in Outlook...

Yep, on my Yahoo account (mikesw200@yahoo.com) I get about 3 hits a day. I use it only for this board and the Dodge Power Wagon board and have received infected messages that look like they come from both. BTW, I received one the other day with your address as the spoofed return address, so it is someone with our addresses in their address book.

Just in case someone is unfamiliar with how K L E Z works, here is the info from the SARC site.


Email spoofing
This worm often uses a technique known as "spoofing." When it performs its email routine. it can use a randomly chosen address that it finds on an infected computer as the "From:" address, numerous cases have been reported in which users of uninfected computers received complaints that they sent an infected message to someone else.

For example, Linda Anderson is using a computer that is infected with W32.Klez.H@mm. Linda is not using a antivirus program or does not have current virus definitions. When W32.Klez.H@mm performs its emailing routine, it finds the email address of Harold Logan. It inserts Harold's email address into the "From:" portion of an infected message that it then sends to Janet Bishop. Janet then contacts Harold and complains that he sent her an infected message, but when Harold scans his computer, Norton AntiVirus does not find anything--as would be expected--because his computer is not infected.

If you are using a current version of Norton AntiVirus and have the most recent virus definitions, and a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus set to scan all files does not find anything, you can be confident that your computer is not infected with this worm.

There have been several reports that, in some cases, if you receive a message that the virus has sent using its own SMTP engine, the message appears to be a "postmaster bounce message" from your own domain. For example, if your email address is jsmith@anyplace.com, you could receive a message that appears to be from postmaster@anyplace.com, indicating that you attempted to send email and the attempt failed. If this is the false message that is sent by the virus, the attachment includes the virus itself. Of course, such attachments should not be opened.

The message may be disguised as an immunity tool. One version of this false message is as follows:

You only need to run this tool once,and then K l e z will never come into your PC.
