As a followup to the concrete project from he**, I took your advice and rounded up a fella with a 6' roto-tiller/tractor setup to work the truck rut areas and compacted clay area around the work site. I want to disc first though so I can mark the area he needs to work as well as precut the turf to make his life a little easier. I'm going to buy a KK 6 1/2" disc with notched front blades and smooth rears. Any recommendations on settings, use techniques, added weight, etc?

BTW the afore-mentioned project from he** includes a 900+ sqft pour that went bad that the contractor had to saw up and haul out and re-pour. And a 19 yr old concrete truck driver who had been driving 3 weeks driving off the high and hard part of the yard (where the other 4 trucks had been) and drove down into the soft wet clay and BURIED his truck. Front axel was beneath the surface - he though if he kept driving down the hill he might get enough traction to backup! The company sent out another full concrete truck to get him out, but no go. Finally got a crane rig to winch him out. You can imagine what the yard looks like! Figure I'll be discing, tilling, smoothing and seeding about 1.5 acres all together. The Jube's going to get a workout.

If you've got a tiller coming in, you'd be wasting good time using the disc first IMHO. Let the tiller do the work, it'll be easier and faster than anything you can do with a disc. Discs are good for leveling plowed (or even tilled) areas, not for breaking up ground, especially sod (although it will do it, wait for tilling)

Ya, they made the mess, let them clean it up as best they can, After that is done, and you are satisfied , go with the discs ,york rake and drag with old bed springs , or section of chain link fence, seed area and run over it with a lawn roller half full of water , A section of old carpeting drug over the area next will help cover up the seed, cover area with straw if you like ( dont like all the weed seed that comes with the straw ) Water Water Water, you will have a great looking lawn .

Sounds like Dave has a perfect excuse to slip a fast one by the boss er, wife and get himself a new disc. So I would definately recommend he at least try the disc before using the rototiller.
It's hard enough to get the toys you Need to go with your tractor. Dave, don't let an opportunity like this slip by. You might even have a look at a FEL and back blade too if you don't have them.
