Jubilee Starter Problem

My 8N recently stopped cranking during start-up. The solenoid clicks, but no start. I have checked the voltage at the starter and it is 12+ volts when crank switch is pushed. I removed the starter and applied battery power to it and it spins during contact. If I hold onto the starter shaft with slight pressure, it will stop. Does this indicate that the starter is bad or is the starter drive doing its job?

Brian..... ....any starter motor I've ever spun out on the bench, I'd never touch the starter shaft because it has so much spinning power. NO WAY!!! good way to loose hand.

Bottom line, if you in you foolishness, can stop your starter shaft, I'd say you've got a BAD STARTER MOTOR..... ..... Dell

I suggest --- check / change the brushes , and internal connections .
