Little Oil in radiator?

I am going to put a new radiator on my 8N this weekend as the old one is pretty bad. Leaks at top etc. I drained the coolent out last night. Opened up the pet cock and let it drain all night. THe coolant came out bright Green looks brand new. Had only been in there a few months since I changed it. I looked at the bucket this AM and noticed a film of oil sitting on the top of the Bright green coolant. Now I know that the oil will always float on top of the water as I used to install oil water seperators. However, even though there was very little oil should I be concerned? Is this normal? or is this a sign that I may have the begining of a problem?

If what you have is really a thin film of oil--like a teaspoon or less in three gallons the system holds; and if it came out of a fifty year old radiator; if the machine otherwise makes good power;and, if there is no water in the oil I would say it ain't broke. On the other hand, if doing a head gasket makes you feel better, by all means feel free. Your tractor your call.

Your mileage may vary

My 2N was leaking from both the radiator and the water pump last winter. Poured in a bottle of stop leak for the radiator and just added anti freeze till it got warm this spring to change the water pump.
When I drained the coolant I also wondered about oil in it.
But...
The stop leak has oily stuff in it that will float to the top of the bucket if left to sit.
If your radiator was leaking, you or someone else might have added some stop leak. Bet you that's what your seeing on the top of your coolant.
Mine is still running strong.

Mine did the same thing as Ultradogs. But, your call on how much oil is in "film". Flushed mine 3-4 times and cleared up. Make sure you have a thermostat. Very important to get these engines to correct heat. Sure makes em work better. HTH DON TX

Dave..... ...little oil on top of anti-freeze is usually a sign of combustion pressure leaking past the headgasket. I'd suggest considering replacing headgasket ($20 cheap) and torque in the proper sequence (consult I&T FO-4 manual) retorque head after 1/2 hr of running time. Should be ducksoup..... .....Dell
