2N with Hupp Dual-Drive?

My newly aquired 43' 2N has the indications of a Hupp Dual-Drive, but I can only find direct and overdrive. The shifter handle is on the right, behind the steering arm. It looks as though it's been broken off and a new end welded on. I can shift from direct, up to neutral, then to overdrive. When I try to pull out, to the side to find underdrive, it only grinds the gears. Can anyone shed some light?

Hi Wes. Despite what Dell said (always respectfully of course), your Hupp should pull out and foward to get you into underdrive mode. Here's the backside of an ad slick that shows the shift pattern:

I can't help you as to why it isn't doing so. I guess you'll just have to pull it and inspect. The underdrive shift fork may be broken, or something out of alignment. YT forum member John Smith is pretty knowledgeable about aux. transmissions. IF he doesn't see your post and respond, you can contact him via his excellent Ford N-tractor web site, that you can reach by clicking here.

Best of luck with it..... Ed

Wes..... ..from your description, I count 2-speeds which equates to dual-drive in my book. Trying to get a 3rd range (underdrive) on a dual-range aux tranny ain't gonna be there, sorry..... ...Dell
