I have replaced the cap, plugs, wires, and the tractor still runs for 5 minutes and quits. It will restart but act the same. Have 1/2 tank of fuel. Any suggestions?

Many thanks to everyone for the tips to fix my Jubilee. The problem was that the gas tank had rust blocking the inlet tube to the carb. I simply used compressed air to clear it out by blowing air back up the inlet tube to the gas tank.

Not familiar with Jubilees, but my 2N died when the in-tank screen clogged. Quick way to get her back to the barn is to get a rubber hose and carefully blow air back into the tank thru the fuel line. Don't inhale! This got the gunk away from my screen for awhile.

Brian, I've got three tractors, each with a different character trait pertaining to problems. If my Jubilee won't run - it's gas. You have fuel flow issues; either from the tank itself, the lines, or the carb is restricted.

Make sure your gas cap vent is open... been there and done this.

My 8N did this the other day. Turned out the needle & seat valve in the carb was (is) sticking. After mine died I was ready with a wrench and removed the plug on the bottom of the carb. Hardly any fuel came out. In a few minutes it would trickle in and it run for a bit again.

FWIW,

Arne

Before the tractor stalls, if I open the choke the tractor will continue to run, but not very well. Once the choke is closed, the tractor stalls. I replaced the in-line fuel filter about 2 months ago.

I just took a couple of weeks to diagnose the same problem.

You say you have 1/2 tank of fuel -- did you check the fuel flow? If it's trickling in, the system will run until the demand for fuel exceeds the available fuel in the line then die.

Also, check coil, condensor, ignition switch.

It would help to know more about the nature of how it dies. I think most dead coils won't restart.

A quick way to see if it's fuel flow is to turn off the fuel filter valve and see if it behaves the same, only dies quicker.

You will probably get five guys telling you this:
Try the coil. Also: try to jump over the ignition switch (the one with the key in it, not the starter button). Both of those are notorious for causing stalls after running for a while. On my Jubilee, it was a defective coil lead.

If you suspect that the fuel supply may be the problem, disconnect the fuel line, attach a piece of rubber tubing to the line and place other end into a one gallon container. Be sure that the level of the container is above the carb. Crank her up and allow it to run from this fuel supply and see what happens. Hope this helps.
