I am having similar problems with my 9N and have already burnt up 2 resistors. The coils in the resistor get red hot and with my tester I am getting voltage in but not out of the resistor. I replaced the wire going from the resistor to the coil because I thought it might have a short but it didn't help. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Dale..... ....you should ALWAYS read some sort of voltage out of your resistor UNLESS it is shorted to GROUND. And since your resistor is glowing and since you don't report any voltage at your frontmount ignition coil terminal, I'd say you've got a short somewhere and miss-wired the ignition coil wire that you replaced..... ....Dell

I have a 48 8N with a front mount distributor like your 9N. When I converted it to 12 volts, I used the original ballast resistor along with a 1.6 OHM resistor (in series). I took my volt/ohm meter with me to the auto parts house and measured resistors until I found one with 1.6 ohms of resistance. I have not had any problems with them since. At the time I converted, I completely rewired my 8N.

Another way is to measure the voltage at the top of the coil with the points closed. If you still have a 6 volt coil, you should have about 3.2 volts. I have about 3.0 volts on mine.
