Joel..... ....there are many reasons for an engine to miss, from incorrect sparkies to mechanical. You really don't give a whole lotta info on what you've done to check out your problem.

Having to run with choke pulled half out implies you are correcting for a lean mixture. Which could be a leaking manifold gasket somewheres. OR an incorrectly adjusted carb. OR weak sparkies as slightly rich mixture burns eazier with weak sparkies.

OR check your sparkies, 1,2,4,3 CCW. Dang tractor is so good it'll run miss-wired. Be sure to use new coppercore sparkplug wire, NOT modern carboncore radio suppression sparkiewire.

OR check your compression. Even on an new overhauled engine, could have bad valves or valve springs. Do a dry then wet compression check. New engine overhaul should be about 120 psi and maybe 5 psi more with oil wet check.

Tell us what you've checked and your results and we'll beable to help you more better..... ..Dell

Say you overhauled the engine. Did you replace the timing gear? If so check archives for mismarked cam gears.
Did you overhaul the carb? If so check for air leaks there.
With the little you post all I can offer you is a couple of guesses. Maybe more info will turn on somebody's lights.

YOur mileage may vary

I did not replace the timing gear, the timing marks were lined up correctly. It has a new carb, and new manifold.Valves ground and lapped in.After it runs for a while you can pull the plug wires off and #1 and #4 plugs are not as hot as #2 and #3.The plugs are firing.

Hey Joel - more tha once it has been pointed out on this board that the lion's share of fuel problems are electrical problems. Is it possible that your plugs are wired in the wrong order? The tractor will run, even with the plug wires switched.

Take a look here and see if it will help you determnine if your plug wires are correct. Maybe it is time for a new cap and rotor?

Good Luck!
