My 2N has what is known in the electrical trade as a "bat" switch for the headlights. It's the same kind of thin handle switch found on old vacuum cleaners. The original part number for the headlight switch is 9N11653, but I do not know what this looks like. Does anyone have an original switch? What does it look like?

Thanks to all. Dell my switch works only intermittantly, so I want to change it. I would like to keep it original, as I mentioned on the steering wheel question. I thought that working at an electrical wholesaler I could get something like the original. Guess not. Someone sent me an e-mail (not posted on this page)about a source for the part. Looks like Just 8N's will be getting an order from me soon for a variety of items.

Brian, I used a two position pull switch I got from a boat supply dealer. The second, full out position I used for the work lite.

Brian..... ..what Ed posted..... .but he didn't point out in the very detailed #3 photo are the clippies for a fuse (not shown). Its a pull for on switch. Some switches have a larger screw on round knob like your choke knob. (interchangeable) There is no reason to change from a togle switch as long as it is the amperage capacity..... ..Dell

Ed, my 8N switch is identical to yours only it did not have a mounting bracket. It was mounted through a hole in the dash under the amp gage. Where was the bracket mounted, exactly? It looks like it mounts where the 8N key goes.

John, there's a early and a late switch, changed around 1950. Ed's photo shows the early bracket with the late switch. Only difference was like Dell said, the early switch used a choke knob and the later switch had a small knurled "knob". The early switch mounted on a bracket on the right side just below the voltage regulator. The later switch was usually on the left side of the dash panel itself up around the amp gage in a hole drilled through the dash. Here's a pic of an early switch and bracket -

Hey John. Thanks for the clarification on what I have here. I got it from John Bower. He just tossed it into the box when I bought a couple of headlights from him.

Regards..... ..... Ed
